My current work is the result of years of longing. These forms have lived in my mind for a long time. They fight to rise to the surface, so they can can come to fruition. I am now starting to introduce a few more new ideas and techniques into the Sculptural Basket. It is a pleasure to be able to work on these pieces. I have waited so long.

The Sculptural Bronze Baskets are a juxtaposition of many elements. To me these pieces are a part of a continuum as old as humanity. But my work is part of the modern world; objects to be desired. Yet what drives the desire? It is to return to the earth, to nurture the earth and have the earth nurture us in return.

The basket is where nature and human craft meet. I use vegetative forms to emphasize the traditional materials and function of baskets. Agriculture is theorized to be developed by women, as they began to nurture the plants they gathered. As humans learned to create more advanced tools, soon they were using the fibers they gathered to create vessels. I am a woman in the modern era, using tools of my time to create these vessels. I intend them to be as timeless.

I use a slightly more modern material to create my baskets. Bronze, the second age of man. Bronze as material resonates with me. It is soft enough to be forged cold, yet it hardens quickly to become strong and resilient. The first metal tools were formed this way . It is desired by sculptors for its ductility and ability to be patinated. It is a material of fine art.

The Sculptural Basket is where these worlds meet. Where craft merges with art, where ancient merges with modern, where metal becomes fiber.
